'I found the Filton factory a fascinating and exciting place. On the airfield an army of contractors had started to build a huge runway, in preparation for the flight testing of the Bristol Brabazon. Beside the runway was a vast assembly hall, and flight sheds, which were being constructed. This was ready for the first prototype powered by Bristol Centaurus piston engines, and that's where it would be housed.'
